Starring At The Armory Track on Saturday: Uptown Games and Its Inspiring Youth Movement

The Uptown Games will take place Saturday, June 2 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Armory. Images taken from last year’s Uptown Games. 

 

More than 750 track & field stars of tomorrow from Washington HeightsInwood and Harlem, will participate in the youth-friendly 7th Annual Uptown Games atThe Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center in Washington Heights.

The Uptown Games, supported by the office of State Senator Marisol Alcantara, features 1st through 8th graders competing in a variety of track & field events.

“The Uptown Games offers our students from Inwood, Washington Heights, and West Harlem the opportunity to take advantage of the Armory Track in Upper Manhattan, a wonderful gem right in our community that also houses the National Track and Field Hall of Fame,” Senator Alcantara said. “I am happy to see our elementary and middle school students come learn more about track and field and participate in a day of fun.

“The Uptown Games are educational and promote a healthy lifestyle. I would like to personally thank The Armory Foundation for the partnership and all of our sponsors who made this wonderful event possible for our community." 

This marks the final track & field event of a truly successful 2017-2018 season at The Armory, that included the February 3rd nationally-televised 111th NYRR Millrose Games. The Uptown Games are designed to promote physical activity and include long jump, shot put and running stations that range from 60m races to 4x100 meter relay.

The Uptown Games is the creation of Congressman Adriano EspaillatNew York Road Runners and The Armory Foundation.

“The Armory is delighted to again host The Uptown Games with the generous support of State Senator Marisol Alcántara,” Armory Foundation Co-President Rita Finkel said. “We have worked diligently all year with a number of our neighborhood partners and our elected officials in order to provide a very exciting and rewarding day for the families of Washington Heights, West Harlem and Inwood.”

Scheduled to join Senator Alcantara and Congressman Espaillat at The Armory to congratulate all participants include Assemblywoman Carmen De La RosaCouncilman Ydanis Rodriguez andManhattan Deputy Borough President Aldrin Bonilla.
